Vive le Printemps !!

Un secret bien gardé ! A well kept secret !

Lots of happiness during the Easter weekend when our three children decided to offer my husband and I a weekend in Beaujolais as a birthday present. They had asked us not to look at details concerning the place as they wanted it to be a surprise. We finally got there to find an old castle, and on the doorstep, ... they were all there: our elder son, his wife and two children, our daughter with her husband and little daughter and our younger son with his wife and little boy !! Yes, I must admit ; I did cry for joy.. It was the first time we met all together since the little ones were born : we were so happy !!! Family is such a blessing !
Thank you so much !!

Then ten days in Switzerland to look after the grandkids.

Staying in South Brittany since May, I sketched some places along rivers. Here the river Ellé and its huge "Devil's Rocks"

Lac de Guerlédan (22) -  Lake Guerlédan

Croquis "dans" le Lac de Guerlédan ...vide .... Etonnant !!Sketching "in " Lake Guerlédan" ... empty .. ! Quite unusual !!

Lake Guerledan is the largest lake in Brittany – it’s an artificial lake and was first flooded around 1930 for electricity production and fresh water supply. In the past it was drained every 10 years or so, but modern maintenance procedures have rendered this unnecessary for the last 30 years – that is until 2015.
The result is that by the summer the whole 10 km long lake will reveal its hidden depths (literally). At the bottom runs the Nantes-Brest canal with 17 locks and associated lock-houses seen for the first time for a generation.

The lake will start refilling in November by the natural flow of the Blavet. It will take between six weeks and two months to refill depending on rainfall.

  2. Great sketches! Glad to see you haven't stopped sketching! A six month void is OK compared to never sketching again.

  5. Wonderful to see your work again, Martine. Regarding the perspective of the arches viewed from the side, the trick is to overrule your Left Brain which "knows" what is there, and just trust that if you draw what you actually see with your Right Brain, it will work. It is counter intuitive, but it has worked for me.
